課程概述 |
Spatial design is a multi-faceted profession in which creative and technical solutions are applied within a structure to achieve a built interior environment. It includes knowledge of materials, structural systems, mechanical and piping systems, building environment, building physics, construction method, space function, visual design, lighting and color, landscape planting plants, and interior design. Besides, the designs need to fit the overall urban design style and designers need to follow the law, to consider the cost, and the challenges might be facing during construction. How to communicate your idea, negotiate with different parties involved, and at the same time keep the aesthetic part of the space or architecture and find the balance at the end are keys of a successful design. For civil engineers, how to use our knowledge of structures and materials as the advantages and integrate different facets mentioned above, this is the spirit of the course. |

The first-half of this semester will introduce different facets of spatial design to students, including material science and form of architectures, architectural aesthetics, design of lighting and color, computational design, and history of architecture. We also plan to invite some designers to present their projects and let the designers share their experiences on design and on site. The goal is to let students learn basic knowledge while understand there is no standard solution for design.
The second-half of this semester will be focusing on lab and model making. This semester we will ask to the students design some real-scale furniture. The focus would be guiding the students to understand the scale and the relationship between our body and furniture and the relationship between furniture and the space through the process of model making, |
